MENTORING:

A Practical Guide…

This book is about growing and developing the next generation of leaders through practical lenses, nuggets, principles, guidelines, and lessons on mentoring people effectively. Through eight chapters, the book defines mentoring, examines its responsibilities, and describes types of mentoring relationships.

Mentoring often happens in many settings but in an ad hoc manner. But today, we need an intentional, thought-through, and structured process. African society, for instance, valued mentoring so much that young people had to undergo certain rites of passage while transitioning through various stages of life from childhood to adulthood.

Mentoring is a valuable tool in human resource development. Organizations recognize that staff can grow into leadership roles if the requisite investment is made in identifying and developing their capacities and capabilities. The Bible also provides many examples of deliberate mentoring relationships, which I will cover later in this book.

Therefore, this book provides a case for mentoring and practical guidelines for building and developing the next generation of leaders. I have also illustrated specific lessons using my personal stories to paint a realistic approach, not just a theoretical framework.

It also looks at pitfalls to avoid in mentoring and the benefits that mentoring brings. The later chapters also discuss the difference between mentoring, coaching and training. Finally, the book also explores mentoring through different seasons and how to deal with Succession and transition.

Book: MENTORING: A Practical Guide for Growing and Developing Leaders
Author: Kingston Ogango
I find Kingston to be factual, comprehensive and practical. His strength lies in the ability to blend theory with practical application, using real-life examples and activities that lead to up-to-date mentorship. In his pursuit, Kingston emphasizes the importance of building strong, collaborative relationships, moving beyond a transactional view of leadership. He condenses inept learning and interpersonal relationships, as key elements leading to valuable insights for dynamic leadership.
Recommendation: Kingston is an excellent trainer who is accessible. He is readily keen to guide into mentoring roles. He is a highly recommended for anyone seeking to enhance their mentoring practice or to better understand the mentoring process. He is a valuable resource for mentors, mentees, and those involved in developing mentoring programs.

I am happy to know Mr. Kingston from a friend in my field of work. At 1st, my approach with Mr. Kingston was formative.. but he blended our interaction genuinely and by the time he was leaving my office we were friends. All along knowing him, I have felt more of a fatherly presence, a caring friend, soft-smiling accomplished man, a mentor and a gentleman full of exquisite taste in fashion all round. He’s absolutely amazing and full of passion of my young generation and he’s always ready to guide, mentor and support. I am privileged to read his book, it’s an amazing mentoring tool that I have learnt a lot from him.
I am forever grateful Sir, for your passion and mentorship both in writing and at your personal interaction one on one.
Thank you so much for this amazing piece!
I recommend to everyone to have a read.

We all have to pass on the baton at some point in our lives. Wouldn’t it be good if we pass to people we have walked with and mentored- a people prepared? This book gives nuggets of how we can engage in that. I belive it will be insightful and refreshing for your mentoring journey.

Kingston Ogango is an exceptional scholar and a passionate Bible expositor. His commitment to nurturing the next generation is unmatched. Through my journey, I’ve come to realize that mentorship can be both direct and indirect. While I may not meet him in person, I am honored to be among the many online followers of his mentorship programs.
I had the privilege of encountering him through Alpha Africa, where it became clear that he has fully dedicated himself to serving others and impacting lives. He is one of my greatest trainers through the Leadwell Leadership Training.
Kingstone is a man of God, full of wisdom and humility. He is open to mentoring others, and his example of leadership is inspiring.
I pray that I continue to grow through his influence, moving from one glory

In reading this book, you see that Kingston’s passion and interest in mentorship is not just a theoretical topic to write on, but a practical part of his life that he so gladly enjoys. In a world where “every man for himself” is the order of the day, we desperately need individuals who can defy the status quo and commit to sacrificially journeying with others.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to pour their life into other people and those who seek to learn the ropes of Mentorship.

I have known Kingston for some 20 years now and the outstanding thing about him is mentorship.
Kingston has distinguished himself over the years as one who seeks mentorship out for himself and those close to him in different aspects of his life. He is intentional, humble, diligent, faithful, committed, open, transparent… and much more.
If there’s someone qualified to speak on the topic from a mentee experience and perspective, l believe Kingston is an authority! I read and highly recommend his book on the subject.

I attended a leadership training where Kingston was the facilitator, and I was truly impressed by his ability to bring out the essence of servant leadership. He not only explained the concept but also demonstrated it through his approach, making it clear that true leadership is about service, humility, and empowering others. His insights challenged us to shift from authority-driven leadership to a model that prioritizes team growth, collaboration, and leading by example. The session was both inspiring and practical, leaving us with valuable takeaways on how to implement servant leadership in our daily roles.”

Mentorship is a great ministry in The Lord’s vineyard because mentees get an opportunity to acquire skills, knowledge, wisdom and even revelations from a mentor hence ensuring growth, sustainability and even innovation. Thank you Kingston for this valuable practical book which even inexperienced people could utilise for the benefit of mankind.

This journey of leadership, coaching and mentorship requires patience and a heart attuned to the Master the Lord Jesus Christ. Over the years, I have observed you and see that this is the foundation of what you do:the love for the Lord. Keep yourself in the vineyard, and the Master will continue to speak, and mould others through you as you submit to His guidance breath after breath.

In the four decades that I have known and had the pleasure to work with Kingston, it is clear that Mentorship is not just a vital part of his commitment to ministry – it is a driving force that he is determined to inspire others to commit to as well. Kingston walks the talk and the results are evident not only in the calibre of young leaders he is mentoring but also in the vision for the future already evident in his mentees. I highly recommend this book and the author’s passion in mentoring the next generations.

Leaders make policies. Others ignite movements. This book is about those who don’t wait for change; but rather create it. In the heart of every thriving community, there is a champion leading the charge. This is the one who builds, empowers, and transforms turning once-forgotten spaces into hubs of innovation and growth and this book is the bag of ingredients that enables you to do this – if you are action oriented.

It is a must read if you are a leader looking out to enter the space where there is breaking barriers, proving that the ripple effect is undeniable. Families prosper. Businesses grow. Futures are rewritten.

This is a very relevant topic in our day and age where most young people prefer starting from the top and have little tolerance for humility and perseverance to grow holistically one step at a time (which is where mentorship comes in as it offers an opportunity to learn from those who have gone before). I enjoyed every page of your book Sir Kingston.
