True Love Waits

True Love Waits delves into the concerns and experiences of young people navigating the complex issues of love and sex, offering both a cautionary tale and a path forward.

This compelling book tells the story of a young girl who began experimenting with love in her teenage years. What she thought was a journey toward true love turned into a series of painful and misguided experiences. Her search left her disillusioned and scarred, highlighting the dangers of pursuing love without understanding its true nature.

Through a systematic exploration of the issues affecting young people today, True Love Waits provides a clear roadmap to understanding love and relationships. It outlines principles of love, identifies its various forms, and offers a Biblical and practical definition of “true love.” This book is not just a cautionary story; it is a guide to making wise and informed choices in the journey toward genuine love and fulfilment.

Together For Life

Building a strong foundation

Marriage is not sustained by love alone. It is strengthened by the principles a couple chooses to build upon from the very beginning. Together for Life – Volume 1: Building a Strong Foundation is a practical and faith-centred guide for newlyweds and couples who desire to establish a marriage that is healthy, resilient and firmly rooted in biblical truth. Rev. Patrick and Pst. Christine Makewa draw attention to the foundational principles that shape the direction, strength and longevity of a marriage. From starting well and building on the Rock, to nurturing love, trust and commitment, this volume walks couples through the values that create stability in everyday married life.

It also addresses the practical realities of setting shared goals, communicating effectively, managing money wisely, understanding one another and embracing marriage as a true partnership. Rather than waiting for problems to arise, couples are encouraged to build intentionally from the start, strengthening the areas that will carry them through changing seasons of life.

Whether you are newly married, preparing for marriage, or simply seeking to reinforce the foundations of your relationship, this book offers biblical wisdom, practical guidance and thoughtful principles to help you build a marriage that does not merely begin well, but continues to grow stronger together for life.

Together For Life

Keeping The Spark Alive

The wedding day may begin the marriage, but keeping love vibrant requires intention long after the celebration is over. Together for Life – Volume 2: Keeping the Spark Alive is a practical, faith-centred guide for couples who want their marriage to keep growing through changing seasons, increasing responsibilities and the ordinary pressures of everyday life.

Rev. Patrick and Pst. Christine Makewa invite couples to move beyond simply staying together and to cultivate a marriage marked by friendship, intimacy, growth and shared joy. This volume explores the principles that help couples remain connected as life evolves. From teamwork, adaptation and resilience to supporting individual growth, the authors address the realities that can either strengthen or slowly distance a husband and wife. They also tackle the influence of social and electronic media, the importance of quality time and intimacy, and the often-overlooked value of humour, playfulness and continuing to court one another within marriage.

At its heart, Keeping the Spark Alive is a reminder that strong marriages do not remain strong by accident. They are nurtured through daily choices, thoughtful attention and the willingness to keep rediscovering one another. For couples who desire more than longevity, this book offers biblical wisdom and practical principles for building a marriage in which love matures without becoming dull, friendship deepens with time, and husband and wife continue choosing each other, again and again, together for life.

Together For Life

Overcoming Challenges

Some marriages are strengthened in calm seasons. Others discover their deepest strength in the storms they survive together. Together for Life – Volume 3: Overcoming Challenges is a practical and hope-filled guide for couples navigating difficult seasons, recovering from relational strain, facing separation, or seeking to rebuild and deepen their marital bond. Rev. Patrick and Pst. Christine Makewa address the reality that even strong marriages can encounter disappointment, conflict, loss, pressure and moments when the future feels uncertain.

This volume explores the principles that help couples move through hardship without allowing hardship to define the marriage. It considers the power of forgiveness, the perspective needed to endure tough seasons, the importance of celebrating progress and milestones, and the grace required to finish well, not merely by surviving marriage, but by growing through it.

Through case studies of marriages that faced significant challenges and found a way forward, readers are reminded that restoration, renewal and renewed commitment are possible. The volume also brings together the 24 principles covered across the Together for Life series, showing couples how to translate them from ideas into practical habits, decisions and responses within everyday married life.

Overcoming Challenges does not offer simplistic answers to complex marital struggles. Instead, it offers biblical wisdom, practical encouragement and a framework for couples who are willing to face difficulties honestly, extend grace generously and keep working towards healing and wholeness. For couples who have discovered that marriage is not always an easy journey, this book offers a timely reminder: difficult seasons may test your bond, but with God’s help, wisdom, forgiveness and intentional effort, they do not have to write the final chapter of your story.

Welcome to the Book Launch

“Impacting lives with Christian literature”

What is the story behind this book—what moment, experience, or burden in your heart made you realise, “This book must be written”?

As we continued serving in ministry as pastors, my wife and I encountered many challenging marital issues. Some of these issues are very complex and require adequate time, wisdom, and careful pastoral attention. Unfortunately, because of the demands of ministry, there are times when we are unable to address every issue as deeply as we would desire. During our 40th wedding anniversary year, the Lord impressed upon my heart that my wife and I could use our own marriage journey and experiences to contribute something meaningful to the Church and to other couples. I shared the idea with my wife, and she humbly accepted. Together, we embarked on the assignment of writing about marriage, not as people claiming to have a perfect marriage, but as a couple who have walked together for many years and have learnt valuable lessons along the way.

What initially began as an idea for one book eventually developed into a three-volume series:

Volume 1: Together for Life – Building a Strong Foundation
Volume 2: Together for Life – Keeping the Spark Alive
Volume 3: Together for Life – Facing Challenges Successfully

The books are our contribution to the Church and a testimony that marriage can be strengthened, nurtured, and enjoyed when couples intentionally build their relationship on godly principles.

Who is this book for, and what transformation do you hope readers will experience after reading it?

The book is primarily written for married couples, but its message goes beyond those who are already married. It is useful for:

  • Married couples who desire to strengthen their relationship.
  • Pastors who minister to families and couples.
  • Marriage counsellors who walk with people through marital challenges.
  • Young people who are preparing for marriage.
  • Christians generally who desire to understand God’s design for marriage.

My hope is that readers will not simply gain information about marriage, but will be challenged to build stronger, healthier, and more Christ-centred marriages. For those who are already married, I hope the book will help them identify areas that need attention and encourage them to make deliberate improvements. For those preparing for marriage, I hope it will give them a biblical and realistic foundation upon which to build their future marriages. Ultimately, I desire to see marriages that become examples for the next generation.

Was there a specific chapter, message, or section that was especially difficult—or especially meaningful—for you to write? Why?

Two chapters that stood out:

Chapter 2: “Building on the Rock”
and
Chapter 3: “Love.”

Chapter 2 deals with the foundation of marriage. The illustration of building on the rock reminds us that every strong marriage needs a firm foundation. A marriage may experience storms, pressures, misunderstandings, financial challenges, and other difficulties, but a strong foundation gives it the stability to withstand those storms. Chapter 3, on the other hand, focuses on love, which I would describe as the heartbeat of marriage. For me, these two chapters capture something fundamental about the institution of marriage: marriage needs both a strong foundation and a heart that continues to love. When Christ is at the centre and genuine love is intentionally cultivated, couples are better equipped to navigate the journey of marriage together.

How did writing this book change you personally—your faith, your thinking, or your journey?

Writing this book gave me a deeper understanding of marriage. Although I had already spent many years in married life and in ministry counselling couples, researching, reflecting, and writing about marriage opened my eyes to many dimensions of the marital relationship that I had not considered deeply enough before. The journey also strengthened my conviction that there is hope for marriage. Our contemporary world often presents marriage as an institution that is failing or becoming hopeless. While I recognise that marriages face serious challenges, I have come to believe even more strongly that marriage can thrive when couples are willing to follow God’s principles, communicate, grow together, forgive one another, and intentionally invest in their relationship. The writing journey also challenged me personally. It gave me additional knowledge and practical insights on how to make my own marriage better. In that sense, the book was not only written for other couples; it also spoke to me as a husband.

For someone watching right now who feels drawn to this message, why is this book important for them to read at this season of their life?

I would encourage them to read this book because marriage is a journey that requires intentional preparation, continuous investment, and lifelong learning. If they are already married, the book can help them identify ways of strengthening their marriage and making the journey more enjoyable and smoother. If they are preparing for marriage, it can help them understand that marriage is much more than a wedding ceremony. It is a lifelong covenant that requires commitment, love, patience, communication, understanding, sacrifice, and a strong foundation. I would also encourage couples to read it because their marriage is not only about them and their spouse; it is also about the generation that is watching them. The way we live our marriages today can become a model for our children and for the young people coming after us. We have an opportunity to demonstrate that marriage can be beautiful, fulfilling, resilient, and lasting. My prayer is that Together for Life will encourage couples to say:

“We will not merely stay together; we will learn to grow together, love together, overcome challenges together, and fulfil God’s purpose together.”

That is the heart behind Together for Life.

A message from Dr. Muthoni Omukhango, the National Director at CLC Kenya and Head of Publishing

It is a special privilege to publish Together for Life, not simply because of the subject it addresses, but because of the journey I have witnessed in the lives and ministry of Rev. Patrick and Pst. Christine Makewa over the years.

I first came to know them through their earlier book, True Love Waits. Even then, their passion for the youth, relationships, marriage and the family unit was clear. What stands out to me is that this passion has not been seasonal. It has been consistent. Through the years, they have continued to speak into the family space with conviction, care and a sincere desire to see marriages thrive. That consistency matters.

The family remains one of the most important institutions in society and in the Kingdom of God. When marriages are healthy, families are strengthened. When families are strengthened, children are nurtured with greater stability, communities benefit, and generations are given a better foundation from which to grow. This is why books such as these are important. They are not merely about helping two people get along better. They are about strengthening the very unit from which so much of life flows.

What I appreciate about the Together for Life series is its progression. Volume 1, Building a Strong Foundation, speaks to the beginning and the basics. It reminds couples that marriage must be built intentionally, on principles that can carry the weight of real life. Volume 2, Keeping the Spark Alive, moves beyond the foundation to the work of nurturing friendship, intimacy, growth, resilience and joy. Volume 3, Overcoming Challenges, acknowledges that every marriage will encounter difficult seasons and offers couples hope, perspective and practical principles for walking through those seasons with wisdom and grace.

Together, the three volumes form a practical journey through marriage: how to begin well, how to keep growing, and how to remain standing when life becomes difficult. As a publisher, I am always interested in books that do more than fill pages. I look for books that can serve people, real people in a real way. These three volumes have the potential to become conversation starters between husbands and wives, resources for premarital and marital counselling, tools for church marriage ministries, and guides that couples can return to in different seasons of their lives.

On a personal level, I am especially glad to see Rev. Patrick and Pst. Christine continue in the assignment I have watched them carry for years. True Love Waits was not an isolated message. It was evidence of a deeper burden for our young people and family, and Together for Life shows that this burden has continued to mature.

Rev. Patrick and Pst. Christine, thank you for remaining faithful to this area of ministry. Thank you for continuing to invest your wisdom, experience and convictions into strengthening marriages and families. My prayer is that these three books will enter homes, churches, counselling rooms and conversations where they are needed most, and that through them, many couples will build better, love more intentionally, heal where necessary and keep choosing one another. May these books help many couples truly stay together for life.

It is an honour to once again be part of bringing your message to readers. Congratulations and well done Rev Patrick & Pst Christine!

I bought one for my first born daughter now taking her KCSE exams as a gift before she’s exposed to the world. But then I created time to go through so that I may understand the literature am exposing to her. I tell you I’ve ended up buying 2 more for her cousins. It’s worth every parent with a teen or youth buying for them. It’ll totally shape, guide & redirect their decision making when it comes to True Love.

Youth is the hope for the family, church and the nation. So we must make what they do in the name of “love” doesn’t destroy them. Because if the true meaning and purpose of love is not known misuse and abuse is enviable.
