Bridging Faith and Society: My Work as a Christian Lawyer, Author, and Educator – Dr. Ernest Katwesigye

I am a Christian Lawyer, Writer, Educationist and Transformational Leadership/Theology Scholar. I work with the Government of Uganda as a Supervisor Prosecutions in the Inspectorate of Government. I also serve as the Executive Director of the Institute for National Transformation, and are a Part-Time Lecturer at Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) and Glad Tidings Bible College, which I also serve as Council Member/Legal Advisor. I am driven by a desire to see God’s Kingdom Manifested in every sphere of society, through drawing out and disseminating the transformational truths of God’s Word. I hold the deep conviction that the Holy Bible has the power to transform society. I therefore use every opportunity to draw out, and teach how God’s principles are a primary tool for transformation. This is a common thread through my over 20 published books. They apply God’s principles to the various aspects of life.

That was the inspiration for the books that were nominated for the ACABA 24 awards. I have organized a number of activities around these books. These include online Book Clubs, and discussions. Christian Learns God’s Rules, the book that received the ACABA Award in the Children’s category specifically seeks to explain the greatest two commandments and the ten commandments to children, through stories they can relate to. These help them to be able to apply God’s principles in their life, right from an early age. Public readings have been held around the book. It has also been used to introduce children to studying the Bible. There are planned Book Clubs around the book, that will help more children to appreciate God’s rules and how they apply to their lives. This will help to grow godly children.

I was very pleased to receive the ACABA award. I must say, it was a pleasant surprise. This is because writing for children takes entering the mindframe of the child and writing from their perspective. It means ditching your common diction and style, and adopting a style that they will be able to relate to. Good enough, I have been writing since I was a child. Also, I teach children and relate with them comfortably, and so it is not difficult for me to enter their mindframe or adopt their language. I have been a Sunday School teacher in the past, both with my local Church, Kasangati Full Gospel Church and Scripture Union of Uganda. This news will of award of the book will thus propel this ministry forward.

ACABA has brought to the forefront this book, Christian Learns God’s Rules. A number of people have asked about the book after that. It has given me a platform, not just to market the book, but to spread the message to children, parents, and children teachers across Africa. The message that a child needs to grow in understanding of God’s rules, if they are to be all that God meant them to be. I look forward to the great opportunities that ACABA brings along.
