Mary Gachau: Empowering Voices Through Truth and Healing – Author of Singlehood and Caregivers

I’m Mary Gachau, a child of God, author, marketer, blogger, coach, and counselling psychologist. My mission is simple: to empower and uplift others through truth, healing, and the lessons learned from my lived experience.

My journey as an author wasn’t planned; it was born from deeply personal seasons of life that refused to stay silent. For years, I felt a pull to make a difference, but it wasn’t until I embraced writing that I found a powerful voice for that calling.

Writing had always been part of me. My school compositions often stood out, and I consistently served as secretary in clubs and evangelistic teams throughout high school and university. Yet, the idea of becoming an author hadn’t fully taken root.

That changed when I joined a church with a vibrant singles ministry for those aged 28 to 45. For the first time, I felt seen and understood in my singlehood. In many churches and in society at large, older singles—especially women—are often made to feel invisible, immature, or incomplete. That deeply bothered me. Our cell group shared openly, and one day, my peers encouraged me to write about these experiences. That conversation planted the seed.

Years later, 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘥: 𝘚𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 was born from my own experience—not as a season of lack or waiting, but as a purposeful and fulfilling chapter. It’s not a list of do’s and don’ts, but a powerful declaration that singlehood is a season to be embraced, not endured. Challenging societal narratives that see singlehood as incomplete or immature, it illuminates the path to self-discovery, purpose, growth, and joy. Writing it was an act of reclaiming authenticity and dignity—not just for myself, but for every mature single who has ever felt unseen. Its nomination is a joyful affirmation that these voices matter and deserve to be heard.

Even before I published 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘥, cancer struck both my mum and sister in quick succession, and I found myself at the heart of caregiving. That journey led me to write my second book, 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦—a heartfelt tribute and empowering guide for those navigating the emotional, physical, and spiritual toll of caregiving. It wasn’t a planned book, but a necessary outpouring born from witnessing the invisible strength, exhaustion, and deep love that define family caregiving. Writing it gave voice to the quiet heroism that too often goes unseen. It became both a healing process and a call for recognition.

Though distinct in theme, both books share a common heartbeat: they’re not just stories, but reflections of real, often unspoken human experiences. They affirm that singlehood can be vibrant and whole, and that caregiving, while heavy, is an act of love that deserves recognition and support.

Having both books nominated has been a humbling affirmation that these stories resonate. My mission as a writer is not just to inform, but to reflect, empower, and inspire.

The journey continues. The ink still flows. And I remain deeply grateful for the chance to share these pieces of my heart with the world.
