Maureen Muhoran is a Kenyan-born princess from Kisii, a county famous for its agricultural bounty, especially bananas—fondly called matoke. She attended primary school in her village before joining Koru Girls High School, where she sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. After excelling in her studies, she joined Zetech University to pursue International Computer and Business Administration Studies.
Upon graduation, Maureen joined the Kenya Private Sector Alliance, serving in different departments. She began with the Kenya Youth Empowerment and Opportunities Programme, helping young people secure internships. She later moved to Kenya Life Skills Promoters, where she advised youth on workplace etiquette. During this period, she attended the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives breakfast summit before becoming an Administrator at Faidisha Wanabiashara Sacco.
With her accumulated experience, she registered her own company, Mondaro Beauty Parlour—a banking agency “geared towards beautifying your pockets” through financial transactions.
My Writing Journey
Maureen’s passion for writing began at around nine years old, sparked by her mother’s constant question whenever she made a mistake: “If you are told to write what you have done, how will you?” This nurtured her love for storytelling and sharpened her skills in English.
The right moment to begin her writing career came in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, while she was running her shop. That is when she began crafting her debut work, Through the Valley to the Mountain.

This inspirational memoir recounts Maureen’s journey through some of life’s deepest valleys—joblessness, family conflicts, and emotional despair—and her eventual rise to self-reliance, purpose, and spiritual growth. Each chapter invites readers to walk alongside her, feeling the pain of abandonment and the joy of rediscovering strength through faith and perseverance.
The book is a testimony that, no matter how deep the valley, with God, the mountain of victory is always within reach.
