Life is beautiful; we only need to look keenly: Jane Wangeci’s Poetic Exploration of Life’s Beauty

I am CPA Jane Wangeci, a mother, a wife, a farmer, an accountant, and a poet. I pursued a BCom (accounting option) from Egerton University, and at the same time completed my CPAK qualification. I am a member of AWAK (Association of Women Accountants of Kenya) and have over 12 years of accounting and finance management experience.

Far from that, I am a lover of books. My writing journey started way back in high school, where I would do some solo and choral verses for drama and music festivals. I loved these. I did my first script immediately after high school and later misplaced the exercise book. Sad. Later, upon joining campus, I found myself in the drama club and still had the opportunity to write scripts. Some of those scripts we performed during drama festivals and community functions; others I am still fine-tuning for the world.

Books by Jane Wangeci

“Beauty Under the Sky” and Other Poems is my first published book, released in 2022. Some of its contents were written as early as 2009 as a freshman. I thank God it’s seeing the light of day.

My second book, “Where My Power Ends and Other Poems”, was published in 2023. It’s a book I patched up within a month. I am a believer in setting achievable goals and self-discipline.

In my writing life, I have had the biggest challenge of balancing work, home duties, and the writing adventure. Being a mother of 3 growing children leaves me with very little time to work on my projects after work. It is not easy.

One thing I love about the nature of poetry is that you get to write one piece of a poem and that’s the end. No plots, no continuation of the storyline, no much research. It easily flows. I thank God for the content.

I am a lover of literature, culture, and arts because I feel that society has so much life to write about. My writing is inspired by many things: nature, occasions, human behavior, God’s great craftsmanship, etc. I have a keen eye for happenings that take place in ordinary situations, and for sure, I can easily scribble that down in a verse. I hope people will enjoy the book and see the need to appreciate every good thing. As long as we are alive, there is so much beauty under the sky for us to savor. Life is beautiful; we only need to look keenly.

I thank God for the talent and the ACABA team for agreeing to have me here. I believe it’s a great opportunity to learn from others as we make the world a better place through literature.

This book, “Where My Power Ends and Other Poems”, was born out of a journey of inner healing. Sometimes we go through situations that require a positive mindset and that’s what this book did to me.

In it, are pieces of Poems like:

  • I Am a Girl
  • Dust Off if you must
  • Take time off
  • Book of Promises
  • I Haven’t found what I have been looking for
  • What keeps you up
  • Count your blessings
  • A heart like a child’s heart

There is even one I wrote to Satan.

The whole theme of this book is that “NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, THERE IS HOPE“.

And I needed to preach that hope to everyone going through life.

See, some things happen that are beyond our power. There are things we can fix and others we can’t. They are beyond us. Let’s say, for instance, a broken marriage, divorce, separation, long sickness, disability, even death. These are things that only God in Heaven can work on.

Our part is living life with hope that God’s grace is with us. So, where my power ends, God’s mercy begins. And when you can do absolutely nothing about a thing, let it be, God is aware.
