Most of the skills taught by CLC Kenya/ACABA such as communication, presentation, accountability, excellence, and marketing are transferable and relevant in any sphere that one finds themselves in – Maureen Babu

Maureen

My current calling is leading me into the education sphere, though I work as an Urban and Environment Management Practioner. My husband and I have partnered with other like minded couples to start a school that will focus on the body, mind and soul of the children by providing a God- centered education curriculum, vocation training and sports & talent development.

I also serve in the Watoto Church Marrieds ministry in Uganda with my husband, as leaders to our small fellowship group.

CLC Kenya/ACABA has enlarged my network of authors who represent all spheres of influence that are available. As an ACABA Cohort, I am privileged to have access to such a great resource that I can draw from to support my areas of calling and also just for my personal, family & friends development.

The trainings offered by ACABA ( 1 year pre and post Award trainings) are excellent avenues for personal and product growth/development. Most of these skills such as communication, presentation, accountability, excellence, marketing etc. are transferable and relevant in any sphere that one finds themselves in.

Additional Testimonial

My first encounter with the African Christian Authors Book Award (ACABA) program was in 2021 when CLC-Kenya helped my family reprint our newly found great grandfather’s Biography-Rev. Canon Ezekiel Apindi (now a double Award-winning biography). This was done at a pocket-friendly cost with their Print On Demand service. When CLC-Kenya shared about the ACABA program, it did catch our attention.

The biography of this great patriarch was authored by the Late Rev. Peter Indalo in the Book, Man with The Lion Heart, and published in Ghana, in the early 1970s. A few copies must have been available at that time, since the biography eventually went through decades of silence.

When the opportunity to partner with ACABA came, it was an offer we couldn’t ignore. The visibility the program was going to offer to the biography was something that was needed to ‘immortalise’ the great patriarch’s legacy. The program offered reputable e-commerce platforms where the biography could be accessed and purchased. The biography got a fresh start through its digitalisation and was now available online to the world! Understandably, these were things that were lacking before.

During the ACABA 2022 program, CLC- Kenya took the nominees through rigorous year-long training that at a personal level, not only increased the biography’s visibility but also ushered the book into the limelight at the grand finale of the ACABA 2022 program. The biography was awarded the Best Book of the Year (2022) for its extraordinary impact; the Best Book in the History and Biography category, and was included in the Top 21 Best Book Cover Nominees.

The whole awarding process is thorough. It involves strict judging criteria. We, as a family, are truly humbled and honoured by the recognition and affirmation the biography received. This has also given us wind under our wings to continue sharing our great patriarch’s story, and support initiatives that were dear to him, including religious and learning institutions that he founded. The biography has since been featured in reputable, leading magazines and newsletters. These have contributed to its increased visibility and consequently increased sales.

The ACABA 2022 year-long program formed networks that are still active, there’s regular engagement. After the awards, life-long friendships and Partnerships continue to be forged!

CLC-Kenya continues to run an additional year-long, rigorous, enriching and engaging program for authors and book custodians like myself. This program seeks to further improve on books submitted to ACABA, based on the judges’ feedback.  The program also pursues the uptake of opportunities such as podcasting, blogging, e-books, and audiobooks, to mention but just a few. All these have been beneficial to me.
