Who Touched Me? – Choices, Chances, Cherishes

Neuro biologists have it on record that the one of the human senses is the sense of feeling. This can be confirmed through touch. Sensory nerves send signals to the body that are interpreted by the brain when one is touched.

Touch can be used as a means to draw the attention of another, or communicate a message, show love, care and on the flip side also harm.

Growing up there was a game we used to play called tag and play; where a person would run and touch another person, passing over their turn to chase the next person and touch them and pass over the tag. If one failed to tag another by way of touch, then they would have lost the game or the last person to be touched would be the first one to chase the others and pass on the tag. Interesting it was. The fastest runner would survive the tag.  Touch is a very personal gesture. If one was touched by a stranger, they would feel that their personal space is invaded, so I once learnt. People tend to accept, embrace and are comfortable with touch from someone they are familiar with or know.  Again, touch is very personal!

NO IDENTITY

This woman had suffered. She was in bondage for a long time. She had done everything possible to get a solution but she had found none. Her pain was increasing by the day. All she wanted was an answer. She had waited and waited and waited but there was no relief to her agony. Oh my 12 years. She had given up all she had. She was wasting away. All her possessions were long gone from visiting different physicians to get treatment for her problem but had failed at all options. Instead of becoming better she was getting worse.  She had become bankrupt! She lost all she had in search of a solution to no avail.  Her name is not known but her issue was profound and spoke for itself. The pain she had gone through had masked and obliviously covered her very identity that her name is not even mentioned.  She had an issue of blood. Hemorrhaging had become her nightmare and it was recurrent.

WHO TOUCHED ME?

Luke 8:43-48 has the details.  One day Jesus Christ was going about his business in the streets as you have read before.  He was a puller of multitudes and crowds. He was always surrounded by very many people.  Have you ever wanted something so bad that it even begins to hurt just thinking about it?  When she heard about Jesus, she took her choice, chance and cherish. I don’t know how she squeezed herself through that crowd but I believe 12 years of pain can make anyone desperate. She should have fought her way through the crowd. Question. How did this woman even fathom that just touching Jesus Christ would make her whole? The answer is faith. Faith has a revelation that man can rarely fathom but lies as a divine mystery.   She came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched me?” “You see the people are crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ In a crowd or multitude, it is almost very impossible to tell who has touched someone. People are so many and pushing against each other.  Jesus knew very well that the touch he had received was one with intent. That touch was moved and driven by faith. Oh oh…So does faith have a measure of weight? Oh yes it does. As a matter of fact, faith is heavy weight.” But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. The woman showed herself trembling and spoke out and spoke up. That she had touched him and been delivered immediately.  Jesus answered fear not your faith has made you whole. Go in peace.

What have you been touching? Is it money, lives of others or hearts? I have heard people say if I can only touch $ 1,000,000 my problems will all be gone. The sad truth is that money can buy a big nice bed but not sleep. It could buy one a big car but not necessarily progress, it can buy you substance but not providence. The woman only said just one touch. She touched the messiah and her life was never left the same.  Jesus gave her a bonus after she had testified. Peace. He told her go in peace. He knew that the condition she had encountered had robbed her of her peace.  Remember no one ever encounters Jesus Christ and remains the same. No one, at least if it is a genuine encounter. Fishermen, prostitutes, blind beggars, demon possessed people have touched him and have the evidence to show.  Touch him with a heart filled with faith and experience the son of God.

Till next time
