“Peace be with you.” That statement always means volumes to one who has been going through some issues in their lives. The list is countless of the things that take away one’s peace. It has been said that Peace is a universal human right and it goes without saying that Peace is a jewel, a fortune and treasure. It is treasured by all. The mind is always racing, the heart pacing, the soul shaken and inner core of a human being destabilized without peace.
Looking at scripture we learn many lessons on the matter of peace.
Genesis 27:1-46- Jacob had fled from his home after scheming and tricking his father Isaac into giving him his brother Esau’s birth right. For the lack of a better word he stole the birth right. Jacob was a schemer. He Impersonated Esau, tricked his father Isaac and conned him of the blessing. Dishonesty had been set in motion by Jacob and indeed it had been let loose and had gone on rampage!
When Esau learnt that Jacob had stolen his blessing, he cried in agony and declared in his heart to slay Jacob. When Rebecca their mother learnt of Esau’s plan she helped Jacob flee to his Uncle Laban’s court. Little did Jacob know that even if one has a blessing without Peace it is worthless.
Genesis 29, 30, 31, Jacob feel in love with Racheal Laban’s daughter but little did he know that his Uncle Laban was a grand master schemer. He out witted Jacob by tricking him into marrying Leah his elder daughter. Jacob had toiled. He broke sweat working for 7 years for Laban to pay bride price. On the night when he was tricked and got drunk he was trapped into Marrying Leah instead of Jacob. He now had to work for another 7 years for Racheal.
Interesting when the 7 years ended and he married the love of his life he realized Racheal was barren. It was as if his Peace was playing games with Jacob. One day when Laban realized that Jacob had become much wealthier than him he plotted to attack him. When Jacob learnt of it he fled yet once again now from his uncle and father in Law Laban. He was trapped. On one side he was fleeing from his trick star and mean father in law Laban and on the other side his angry and enraged brother Esau. He had no Peace in his heart. That is when he realized that even if he had his father’s Stolen blessing it was not complete without God’s blessing.
Genesis 32:22-30- Jacob got into a heated fight with God. When Jacob wouldn’t lose he was blessed by God by him being struck on the hip and being given a new name from Jacob to Israel.
Without God’s Peace one can never have true peace. We see clearly in scripture whenever Jesus Christ healed someone he would tell them go in Peace. He always added peace to the miracle because the blessings of God make his children rich and add no sorrow. Proverbs 10:22.
