Rooted in Nature and Faith: Babalwa Fatyi’s Journey of Words, Wisdom, and Stewardship

My name is Babalwa Fatyi, and I come from Dukatole Location, a rural village in the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. I am a registered professional natural scientist and the founder of Myezo Environmental Management Services ( Pty) Ltd (Myezo). which I have run since 2005. My work focuses on environmental stewardship and sustainability. Myezo provides environmental advisory services across various sectors.

My Writing Journey

I began writing as a child, inspired by my surroundings. Growing up, I collected firewood from the Gqogqorha and Baziya Forests in South Africa, and I was constantly amazed by the beauty of nature. These experiences shaped my understanding of the importance of our environment . I started writing about the challenges my community faced. My work often highlights issues like environmental damage and social justice, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and ethical leadership.

In addition to poetry and articles, I’ve written articles for a Christian magazine called Joy, where I connect my faith with social issues.

I hold a Master of Science degree and a second Bachelor’s degree in Bible and Theology. I was awarded an Honorary Doctorate, which was designed to recognize contribution to service and leadership.

Impact of My Work

Through my writing, I aim to honor the stories of those around me and raise awareness about important issues. My first book, Greetings from My Core, was published in 2015, followed by When Mulberry Trees Are Uprooted in 2017. I’ve also written articles on topics like gender and environmental concerns, sparking conversations in both the literary and business communities. My poetry has also been recognized at the South African Literary Awards.

I was honored to be a finalist in the Arts and Culture Sector in the CEO Global Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government Awards.

I believe in the power of literature to bring healing and connection.
I see myself as a servant, dedicated to caring for creation and bring hope to humanity. When we neglect our natural resources, or our own souls, we harm our communities and our future.

Conclusion

In closing, my journey as an Author, Poet, and Environmental Scientist is deeply rooted in my life experiences. I have also served in various ministries, including Evangelism, Hospital Ministry, Counseling, and Worship (Dance). I am passionate about inspiring hope and raising awareness of God through my work. I am truly grateful for the support I have received along the way. Thank you for allowing me to share my story. #ProudlyAfrican
