Display Of Love In Resurrection

Tomb of Jesus Christ. Crucifixion And Resurrection. Religion, Easter theme.

God is Love.
This love is in the Person of Jesus Christ.
The beloved Son of God.
It is spread all over,
When you set your mind to see the love of God,
You will get it.

Just look at what happened to this widow, as recorded in Luke 7:11 – 17.

11 Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples came with Him, and a large crowd.

12 And when He came near the gate of the city, behold a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.

13 When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”

14 Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”

15 So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.

16 Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us;” and “God has visited His people.”

17 And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region.

Beloved,
This woman is a widow.
She has already buried her husband.
Now she is on her way to bury her son,
Her only son.
How sad!

A large crowd is with her.
They are doing the best they can,
Helping her bury her son and comforting her.
But can they reach her troubled heart?

Lord Jesus,
I salute You!
You are so loving, so caring, so powerful, yet so gentle.
You went to the city Nain for this widow’s sake.
You took time to go to minister to her.
Compassionate love at its best.

But Lord Jesus,
Do you tell her not to weep?
When she has lost her only son?
Her husband is already dead.
Her is family is dying out, in her hands.
You still tell her not to weep?

The shame of being unproductive,
The tons of guilt in her heart.
The complicated grief of losing two intimate men.
You still tell her not to weep?

What will she do with all the tears;
That are pumped in her heart,
Flowing through her eyes,
And running down her miserable cheeks.

Beloved,
Within the same minute that Jesus said,
“Do not weep,” He touched the coffin.
The coffin carriers stood still.
Jesus said,
“Young man, I say to you, arise.”

The dead man sat up.
He began to speak.
I wonder what he said.
May be, “Mum, I missed you”
Or “Who are these people and where are they going?”
Imagination is allowed.
We are humans, not robots.

It was hard for the boy
To comprehend what was happening.
But not so for the mother.
For her, it was a state of joyful shock.
She was not expecting Jesus;
Like Martha and Mary Magdalene,
When their only brother died. (John 11:20 – 21)
This poor widow had no hope whatsoever.

Now she has her son alive and talking.
His dead eyes are now sparkling with life.
She is not sure if it is a dream or reality.
She is overwhelmed with gladness.
She has no words to express her appreciation.
It is beyond words.

And she is not alone.
The large crowd is also exceedingly happy.
They cannot keep their mouths shut.
They are saying,
“A great prophet has risen up among us”
“God has visited His people.” (Luke 7:16)

Lord Jesus,
You amaze me with Your love.
Your compassion is wonderful.
Surely, you are the resurrection.
You are life.

To this widow on the City of Nain,
You have put an abrupt end to her grief.
An unusual occurrence.
You have given her hope.
She can now carry on her husband’s lineage.
Because her dead son is now alive.

And more than that, she has received love.
A phenomenon she cannot describe.
It is the love of God in Christ Jesus.
It is divine.
No human language can explain it.
No wonder; this very grateful mother is quiet.
She has also received the Lover – Jesus Christ.
A glorious achievement! It is awesome.

Beloved,
Jesus went to the City of Nain to present this widow with:
Her dead son resurrected,
Love of God in Christ Jesus.
The Lover Himself – Jesus Christ.
That is a great basket of great gifts.
No wonder she is tongue tied.

Beloved,
Do we not have a Savior par excellence?
Do we not have a Lover eternal;
Who will never leave us nor forsake us?

Her grief was nullified, immediately.
Her shame and guilt were wiped out completely.
Her mourning period became a celebration.
Just like that.
Lord Jesus, salute!
You are altogether loving, yet so gentle.

Beloved,
Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.
He came that we may have life; and life more abundantly.
The widow of Nain is my witness.

Beloved,
We have seen the reunion of the widow and her son.
We have also heard the large crowd glorifying God.
Now let us focus on Jesus Himself.

He does not introduce Himself;
Like most of us are used to.
He does not talk about His mission on earth.
He attracts no attention.

After presenting the boy to the mother,
He moves on to the next ministry;
Dishing out love, to whoever needed it.
How loving?

Lord Jesus,
You are so loving.
No wonder You are the Son of God;
The Son of Love.
For God is Love. (1 John 4:16)
Thank You very much, for loving me.
For seeking and saving me.

Beloved,
Take note that God loves you. (John 3:16)
Don’t stop there!
Intentionally, feel your breath;
As you breath in and out through your nose.
That is what was missing in the son of this widow.
But the presence of Jesus brought life.

He came that we may have life and life more abundantly.
This abundant life has eternal life.
It comes from Jesus and Him only.
There is only one way back to God.
It is through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.

In John 10:10,
Jesus brings the two kingdoms together.
“The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy.
I have come that they may have life and life more abundantly.

In the story of the widow of the city of Nain,
Satan had stolen from her so much: joy, peace, love, provision etc.
He went on to kill her husband and her son.
He destroyed her family and her life.

But here comes Jesus!
He brings in light where darkness reigned.
He brings in hope in a hopeless setting.
Above all, He brings in love.
And love is the greatest. (1 Cor 13:13)

You realize that, God loves you so much;
You don’t know what to say.
It is a great encounter; a wonderful experience.
Lord Jesus, you are the Love of God.
You are altogether lovely and loving.
Lord Jesus, teach us to love you.

Resurrecting Continues

“Little Girl Arise”

There is so much to learn about the Lord Jesus.
As we learn, may we learn with our hearts,
Because the knowledge is too heavy for our minds.

Let us focus on His immediate response;
When Jairus approached Him on his knees,
About his little daughter, who was dying.

Luke 8: 41 – 42 has it recorded this way:

41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was the ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus' feet and begged Him to come to his house,

42 for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him.

Beloved,
Jesus did not answer Jairus. He just followed him.
He did not clarify anything like “Where is she?”
Jesus just followed Jairus to go and his only little girl.
How comforting, how encouraging for Jairus?

Lord Jesus,
Thank You very much for Your display,
Of outright obedience;
Demonstrated by your immediate response.

Oh that we may get it into our hearts;
That in the split second that we call You,
You respond immediately, regardless of the crowd.
Your willingness to raise us up is unstoppable.
This is awesome!

Lord Jesus,
I love You, salute You and treasure You
You overwhelm me with your unconditional love.

Back to the Story of Jairus

Luke 8:49 – 50 states as follows:

49 While He was still talking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him. “Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher.”

50 But when Jesus heard it, He answered him saying, “Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well.”

Beloved,
Let us focus on the reporter of the bad news.
Who said that the Teacher should not be troubled,
Because the little girl is dead already.
Is that how one comforts a father whose daughter is dead?
How cruel could such a person be?

No wonder, Jairus could not answer him;
Not even one word.

Beloved,
Do you realize that even Jesus Himself;
Refused to answer the evil messenger?
Instead, He spoke to Jairus.
This is what He said,

“Do not be afraid;
Only believe,
And she will be made well.”
What a promise?
How comforting, loving and caring?

Beloved,
Take note;
Waste no time talking with an evil messenger.
In your hearing, discern who is talking.
Discern what is communicated; good news or bad news.
Do not engage with an evil messenger.
He is deceptive.

Just listen to this:
“Do not trouble the Teacher.”

Beloved,
Jesus is going to Jairus’ house willingly.
Why does the deceiver accuse Jairus of troubling the Teacher?
Who made him the advocate of the Lord Jesus?
How dare him?

Lord Jesus,
I salute You.
You intentionally ignored the accuser.
And lovingly encouraged Jairus.
You are so gentle yet so powerful.

Lord Jesus,
Thank You for this lesson; at such a time like this.
When deception is so rampart! It is all over!
Particularly on the mobile phone;
Where all and sundry are free to say anything and everything.
They call it information age

Hear our prayer Lord Jesus,
Give us wisdom to ignore the evil one.
And boldness to believe your Word.
We need You now more than ever before.

Back to the Story of Jairus

Luke 8:54 – 56
54 But He put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, “Little girl arise.”

55 Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And He commanded that she be given something to eat.

56 And her parents were astonished, but He charged them to tell no one what had happened.

Beloved,
Lord Jesus is the resurrection (John 11:25)
He just said, “Little girl arise.”
Just that.
No drama, no sermons.
And she arose immediately.

Beloved,
Mark the sequence:
Jesus took her by the hand.
His touch has power of resurrection.
Then Jesus spoke, “Little girl arise.”
That is resurrection language at work.
The voice of creation at work.
The little girl had arise.

Jesus noted that she was hungry.
He is so cool.
He commanded that she is given food.
He is so practical, so real, so caring.
No wonder her parents were astonished
I am also astonished.
Are you?
