The book of Genesis chapter 6 contains an intriguing account in which the Bible claims that the sons of God had sexual relationships with the daughters of men, resulting in the creation of a distinct race. This was sexual depravity, which God never intended. According to the Bible, these God’s sons took whoever they wanted as their wife. I’m always curious whether this was voluntary or coerced on the part of the women.
Subsequent versus demonstrates an intriguing link. As a result of this, the Bible claims that the Earth was filled with violence and that man’s imagination was constantly evil. The violence becomes so severe that God decides to flood the entire earth.
The same relationship may be found in the account of Lot, when the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were replete with sexual depravity. What we often overlook is that there was also sexual violence. According to the Bible, when the angels appeared to Lot, he led them to his home. Later, men of Sodom arrived at Lots’ residence, intending to violently engage in unnatural sexual intercourse with the angels. They intended to sexually assault them. Lot begs them to give him his two daughters instead, so that they he can rape and mistreat them.
The men of Sodom reject this offer, threatening to do worse to Lot if he refuses to open for them.
It is at this juncture that the angels must step in to protect Lot.It seems that in Sodom and Gomorrah, sexually abusing guests was normal behavior. It’s no surprise that the bible mentions that there was a loud cry against the cities.
When David opened the door to sexual perversion through an illicit relationship with Bathsheba it doesn’t long before this leads to violence. He eventually murders Bathsheba’s husband.
When Amnon David’s son opens the door to perversion with his sister, he ends up sexually assaulting her, which results to his horrific death at the hands of Absalom, his brother.
Samson’s relationships were always suspect, and violence was never far away.
We must be conscious of the link between sexual perversion and violence, and we must guard the doors to our hearts, families, society, and nation, lest we pay the price of destruction.
