From Classroom to Impact: Wonder Mukami’s Journey from Teaching to Mentorship and Beyond

My Name is Wonder Mukami
In my journey as a teacher ( Physics & Maths), l always found myself going behond my call of duty to always giving different counsel to students per time because in my challenging upbringing, nobody was available for me despite having couple of relative graduates and my two parents. I desired to offer a leaning shoulder to as many as l could in my simple ways.

In the early 20s, when Kenyan students began indulging in drugs ,alcolism among others l lost passion in teaching as l realized that the Kenyan ministry of education and the Teachers Service Commission who could influence such behavior did very little if anything at all to arrest the situation. As a certified teacher l approached my employer to deploy me into a couple of schools seasonally instead of being stationed in one station to transform the young souls. I became zealous that l lost meaning in meeting my personal needs through a salary as young destinies kept getting wasted… Meanwhile all my frequent pleas appeared to have fallen on deaf ears despite sharing my idea to topmost personels.

ln 2016 l took a risk and temporarily left teaching, began doing part-time teaching in the universities so that I could focus more on impacting destinies as l meet only my personal basic needs. but little did l know that the institutions weren’t prompt on paying moonlighting personels…

ln 2018 December, l felt a prompting to quit teaching completely and focus on youth’s mentorship.lt was quite challenging, but God backed me with plenty favor at different parts of the nation. I coached the youth in high schools and universities, trained the prefect bodies as agents of change, trained guidance and counseling to both peer counselors and their guidance and counseling teachers besides their youth’s Opinion( Leaders, parents, teachers , Sunday school teachers, youth’s leaders and pastors) also in churches and during parents day meetings in schools.

In each of the meetings l held with youth’s Opinion Leaders, they lamented that I didn’t have books to sell after my talks. Just like Pastor Edward Munene, the request gave me a quest towards the same, but didn’t know l was almost there….

In 2020 lockdown manifested as it did and I heard the Holy Spirit quicken me that it was time to document my thoughts in a book which I actually did with ease as He took the lead. I however was challenged so much financially just, to mention a few things that feeding, house rent was a big handle for me, but I was lost in my assignment that 2 good days l took water as my breakfast, lunch and supper but was convinced to pay whatever price to salvage the destinies of my younger siblings.

My greatest joy was when I shared how l contemplated committing suicide a couple of times to young people and majority would bring up overdoses of drugs, and share other avenues for the same who would finally change for good among others. I for sure didn’t want anything to intercept such impacts….

In December 2020, l got a national award as the second best on mentorship by Kenya Christian Professional Forum. This was a good motivation that I was in the right track.

In 2021 June l surrendered to God when I could no longer feed not meet any single basic need to make a way for me in order to pay huge debts that I haven’t ended till today. From nowhere l received a call to return to work. Despite my challenges, wrestled with the idea of going back to teaching and restrictions towards my services till l had to seek counsel from few spiritually sensitive mentors who inspired me to go back to teaching as l still do mentorship as l trust God for intervention. I know it’s never easy, but I had to take the offer….

To the glory of God, finally after clearing up part of the debts, 2 of my key debtors forfeited my settling them financially till l gain financial stamina after publishing. This is how l was able to publish my first book( Youth-Matics). By God’s grace, it’s a great read that addresses most gaps found in our education system _ socially , emotionally , Psychologically , economically, intellectually & spiritually instead of just emphasis on grades in exam papers while students failed in most other exams of life …. It’s a great recommendation to any serious parent that aspires to see the success of their children both in school and outside school .

To crown it all, waiting isn’t at all equal to wasting as no single national school today have been able to say no to the book, most will give me limited opportunities, but time again has been a challenge. Nevertheless, l believe God can do anything to make a way for me where there seems to be none🙏🙏🙏✍️.
