Kingston Ogango’s Publishing Journey: Mentorship, Leadership, and the Power of Words

KINGSTON OGANGO PUBLISHING JOURNEY
Kingston Ogango is passionate about mentorship and coaching. I am a leadership catalyst, author, trainer, minister, thought leader, and designer.
I hold a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from International Leadership University (ILU) and have extensive leadership experience, having occupied various roles in different organisations. Currently, I serve as a trustee and board member for several organisations.

My writing journey began when I was a young boy in primary school. At that time, I loved reading works by African writers like Chinua Achebe, Okot P’Bitek, Wole Soyinka, and Ngugi wa Thiong’o. Their literary contributions impressed me so much that by age 11, I had a small library in my room where my friends would come and borrow books for a fee. This passion later inspired my English composition writing. Although I was a novice, I wrote my first book with a friend at 12, but when we sent the manuscript to the publisher, we never received a reply. Although I was disappointed, it didn’t kill my spirit. I would go on to design many books later.

In the early 2000s, I felt a pull towards studying leadership, which led me to pursue a Master’s degree. Through this journey, I realised much had been written on management but not leadership, especially in our African context, particularly mentoring, which lacked many contributors. Consequently, I chose to engage in the leadership development conversation by writing practical guides, especially since mentoring is often confused with coaching. I am passionate about developing people, particularly younger leaders, to help raise credible leaders who will transform our societies.

I have also been able to write several devotions on leadership and other Christian topics.

Join me on this journey to explore mentorship as a leadership tool. Life resembles a generational relay, with each succeeding generation tasked with passing the baton of distilled knowledge, experience, and wisdom. Senior leadership should strategically focus on developing future leaders by proactively identifying and vigorously establishing coaching processes that create a pipeline of suitable and credible leaders prepared to take charge.
