Prayer is Spiritual Oxygen – Choices, Chances And Cherishes

Oxygen is a very vital element in human life. The Scientists assert that it is called O2.  A substance with only 1 atom with 8 protons in its nucleus. It fills the human lungs when breathed in which is later used to break down food which the body converts into energy. Oxygen is essential.  A must have for a human life. Have your ever gasped for breath? The feeling is not good at all. Oxygen, Oxygen, Oxygen.

I have done some swimming, oh yes competitive swimming. As a matter of fact, at University I represented at the University sports games. As a swimmer you will know that however good a swimmer you may be, if you do not control and regulate your breathing and oxygen intake, you are bound to fail at competitive swimming. One of the sports that the sports person engages the whole body is swimming. It is a demanding sport.

Likewise, Christianity like swimming is equally demanding. It will require some essentials like oxygen one of which is Prayer. Without Prayer, one’s very Christianity will lack a very essential part of life and eventually die away. Prayer is very potent. Every christian will need it in order to survive, grow and even thrive. I have come to learn that as Christians, we have to keep in prayer in order to grow.

Telling the story of Anna the Prophetess in the bible. Luke 2:36–38 “Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fasting and prayers night and day. And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.”

Oh, this woman was a prayer warrior. Her prayers shook the heavens that the messiah was born in her time. Allow me qualify this. She spent 80 years in prayer nonstop for the messiah’s coming.

Psalms 150:6- Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Because you have breath you are commanded by God to Praise him.

Even the greatest gift of the Holy Spirit to come after the messiah was imparted by breath.

John 20:22- And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

Without prayer your Spiritual Oxygen depletes. The more you pray as a Christian it means you are continually breathing in and out and not just breathing but also connecting into the source and author of life eternal.  Keep praying, Keep breathing. Stop praying and stop breathing at a spiritual level.

Praise the Lord.

Till next time.

This is very nice stuff. I have really enjoyed reading Richard Mwebesa’s piece relating prayer to oxygen! It made me think. Everytime I spend hours, days without prayer, my spiritual life struggles and will eventually die if I keep on without spiritual oxygen , and as a result, my life will suffer.
It gave me a better understanding of the importance of prayer, importance of having a relationship with God, we need to cultivate it with all we have got, just like swimming. Thanks Richard. God bless you.
