Vuyiswa Nodada

Introducing...

Vuyiswa Nodada

Vuyiswa Nodada hails from the Eastern Cape in South Africa.  She self-published her first poetry book “Scent of Royal Sound” in 2011.  In 2015, she self-published her second poetry book “Eve’Olution.”

Her writing talent was re-affirmed in 2010 when her short story was published in Germany as part of an anthology titled “Elf” with other South African writers.  In academia, her thesis titled “Change Imperative in the South African Economy” received high regard.  She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management (an equivalent of BCom honours). In 2021 Nodada self-published another anthology of poetry entitled “Ubuntu” with a sub title “Imperative Social Imperative.”

While Nodada worked full time in Financial Management she contributed to personal Social Community Projects by informally adopting children from four destitute families.  She provided for them materially, socially, academically and most of all spiritually.

She is passionate about extending Ubuntu to others hence her last offering digs deep into the subject of Ubuntu. Currently she is a full time writer, runs a Book Club and runs other literary projects.  She is the founder and Director of Ubuntu Springs of Ink Literary Projects.

Her highlights as a poet, amongst others, include her sharing the stage with the likes of the acclaimed Reverend Ndungane at The Reverend Hurley Memorial Lecture in the University of Kwa-Zulu-Natal in Durban; sharing the stage with the honourable Premier of Kwa-Zulu-Natal, Willies Mchunu in Estcourt and sharing the stage in Pretoria at UNISA (University of South Africa in Pretoria) with the legendary and internationally acclaimed the late Professor Kgositsile and Professor Oliphant.  Her work permeates excellence, great quality, her faith in God, inspiring Godly principles and promotes spiritual virtues.

Eve’olution

Firstly, the title of this book takes us back to the beginning.  It takes us to the Garden of Eden.  Eve was the alpha mother.  The first creature of the feminine gender.  Locked in her were all the WOMB-MEN, the WOW-MEN (wow due to her perfect beauty), the WO-MEN (women) that followed, myself included.  Eve had her alpha home in the paradise called Eden.  She was perfect, sinless, holy and majestic, well at the beginning.  I remind the reader of the BEAUTY, BOUNTY, PLENTY, ROYATLY and JOY that marks our genesis that should be a source of inspiration when it gets tough and rough. The first three letters “EVE” of my title make reference to the Biblical Eve as alluded to in the paragraph above.  I take myself and females alongside my journey as modern Eves. Spiritually, the connection that traces us ALL back to Eve should connect us to each other.

This notion promotes equality, love, unity, Ubuntu, social justice, respect of each other’s different tribes and nationality.  This book promotes all these virtues and so many other Godly attributes. The book in a nutshell is about HOPE.  Since it is poetry, the messages are not direct but are between the lines. The last part of the title OLUTION is my creative way of connoting PROGRESS.

Therefore in other words the book centers on femininity, the modern and current women’s journey in view of her Biblical origin and Biblical end. In between the book highlights her struggles, triumphs, weaknesses, strengths, her vices and her virtues due the Fall, due her now sinful nature and the consequence of living in a sinful world – a very POLITICAL WORLD, how she navigates and triumphs against all odds. This book is the best if you want to introduce someone to the Word indirectly.

This book is best for the people who do not believe in the Bible as the Bible is presented in a gentle way and intelligent way through the use of poetry. For those skeptics who believe that the Bible was brought by the Colonizer as a weapon to steal from Africans, this book makes a strong case against that belief and advocates for TRUTH.

There are many poems that trace Africans in the Bible.  Proving the fact that even if Missionaries did not arrive in Africa; the Gospel would have arrived regardless.  I cite in the book the Ethopian Monarch in his chariot, who received salvation directly from the disciple, Philip, miraculously.  I speak of revelations through visions by African prophets the likes of Ntsikana. Every poem in this book is underpinned by a Bible verse or a Biblical principle.  It is sure to lead a typical NON-BELIVER towards the journey of discovering God the Father, God the Son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and God the Holy Spirit, our Comforter, Teacher and Guide.  Let it be so!

Vuyiswa, in her book “Eve’olution“touches on a crucial subject that takes us to the very beginning, lest we forget. I love the poetic rendering of the powerful words, I can feel her passion as expressed in words of poetry, yet sending a powerful message of reminder. I just have to also note that she is my senior from Cancele Senior Secondary School, in the lowly valleys of the Eastern Cape, South Africa – this gives me so much pride to be associated with this giant.

A huge congratulations to my best friend Vuvu for being a thought leader in her own right, doing what many PhD graduates have not done, i.e., publishing several books!

She is an Accountant by Profession but I am ‘wowed’ by her consciousness, passion, resilience and commitment to social justice underpinned by the African value of ubuntu.

May her writings be a constant reminder to each of us that my humanity is bound up in yours, in the words of the Arch, “I am therefore we are, we are therefore I am”.

The central theme of this book is Ubuntu, it highlights to the reader the importance of taking care of one another. It also shows people the fragility of life, the many huddles people go through but with perseverance, positive outcomes always emerge. This book is an example of the best kind of poetry. Well done Vuyiswa.

Vuyiswa Nodada is an inspiration on her own, she is kind and polite. You get inspired by her smile before you read her book, she is a feminist and a lover of nature. She paints and potrays the beauty and bravery of a woman progressing in EVEolution.

Vuyi is a prolific writer she goes deep in the subjects she writes about and she is very kind to those she is writing about, as a South African who was there during Apartheid and was affected, her writing would have lambasted those infected pain on others but she writes in a redemptive way. No pain she has gone through can change her character, she is just good.
