Leadership

CLC KENYA/ACABA EFFORTS TOWARDS BUILDING LEADERSHIP IN AFRICA THROUGH LITERATURE

Leadership is a crucial aspect of development in Africa. It is necessary for individuals to possess strong leadership skills in order to drive progress and change within their communities. It is important to cultivate and nurture leadership skills in the continent’s youthful population to ensure a brighter future.

Literature can play a significant role in encouraging leadership in Africa

What are our four contributions?

This will amplify the leadership effect in the continent. Through the CLC Kenya/ACABA Authors Training & Empowerment (ATE), authors are empowered to develop the skills necessary to become effective leaders themselves.

  1. They can document their stories (successes and failures) in their leadership journeys. This will translate into more contextualized books on leadership.
  2. Books can be used as training tools to impart disciplines in different areas of life.
  3. Books can go beyond the leader’s circle of influence and also beyond their life span.
  4. Books can impact many lives in different times as one book can be read by several people over and over.
  5. Books legitimizes or increases credibility of a leader’s position and message.
  6. Books open doors for speaking engagements and other events opportunities that may otherwise not open without the book.
  7. Books can be future points of reference for leaders to improve on their message as they grow in their leadership journeys.

This offers a platform for the authors to teach valuable lessons on decision-making, communication, and problem-solving for the continent. These initiatives are aimed at providing insights, inspiration, and practical guidance on how to lead effectively.

This will offer a platform for others to be inspired to lead in their big or small ways.

Dear ACABA Team,

Thank you so much for the recognition. I am truly honoured and grateful for this award.

About Me and My Calling
My name is Margaret Chigunzi Kimaiyo, and I serve through Agape Hope Children Centre, a charitable children organisation focused on providing educational opportunities for children from marginalized communities in Kenya. With a background in social work, counselling psychology and over twenty years of experience managing and supporting vulnerable children, I am passionate about advocacy, creating safe learning spaces, and empowering young people to thrive. Whether through community outreach, school support programs, or capacity building, I aim to lead with compassion, excellence and integrity.

Leading Through My Book
My book, The Untold Story of the Turkana Girl, is an extension of my calling. It amplifies the voices and experiences of marginalized communities while sparking conversations on resilience, justice and hope. I use the book as a tool for awareness, mentorship, and community engagement, especially in schools and youth forums where stories become a doorway to healing and empowerment.

My Reaction to the Award
When I received the news that my book had been awarded, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. I felt validated, deeply encouraged and motivated to continue writing stories that honour overlooked communities and inspire transformation. It was a very humbling moment.

Impact of ACABA on My Leadership Journey
ACABA has been instrumental in strengthening my growth as an author and leader. Through its supportive community, visibility platforms and capacity-building opportunities, I have gained confidence to use my book more intentionally in leadership spaces. The recognition has opened doors, expanded my network, and affirmed the significance of storytelling in shaping community impact.

Thank you once again for celebrating this journey with me.

Warm regards,
Margaret Chigunzi Kimaiyo
