Meet The 75 Year Author Who Is Not About To Retire From Authorship

My writing journey started back when i was in high school. There was a school magazine called ‘Getembe ” Kisii High School magazine where I participated in articles and my American English teacher McClure made me the Editor in Chief because of my contribution in writing articles. He liked my quality of articles and suggested that I pursue journalism at the University.

I actually chose journalism as my career of choice but unfortunately the faculty was not ready by the time of joining Nairobi University in 1971.So I had to join a different faculty. I tried Law but it was already full .I joined faculty of Arts and majored in BA Economics and Literature in 1974.I was employed by the Public Service Commission in the Ministry of Finance as an Assessor of Income Tax graduate trainee in 1974.

I worked in Income Tax Department and thereafter Kenya Revenue Authority for 33years in various capacities but basically as an administrator and manager until the year 2005 when I retired at the age of 58 yrs.

After retirement I set up a tax consultancy firm known as Fidelity Estates and Tax Consultancy Limited. After 10 years I said I had had enough of tax matters. Then I remembered I had initially wanted to write as a journalist. I started to write and my manual which I submitted to three publishing firms wasn’t published for reasons I could not understand.

The title of the manual was ‘Set The Last Captives Free ‘.On failing to get it published despite the Editors opinion that it was a must publish to his bosses, a confidential advise by one member of staff was that I should not waste time with the publishers and that I could go ahead and do my own publishing. I registered a publishing firm known as Gideon Wisdom Publishers which I am using to publish my books.

In total I have published 12 books including the latest ‘ The Lost Boy ‘ in 2022 and which I have submitted for the 2023 ACABA Awards. This is the third entry I am making after ‘Amazing Love’ , ‘Why Jesus Christ’, and ‘ Born To Die ‘

I am basically a novelist inspired by Chinua Achebe and Ngugi Wa Thiong’o who was my lecturer at the University of Nairobi .

The other books I have published are :
Set The Last Captives Free
The Tale of Innocent Imani
Swahili translations
1.Mateka wa Mwisho Wakombolewe
2.Hadithi Ya Imani Asiye Na Hatia
3.Kuzaliwa Ili Kufa
4.Mahaba Ya Kushangaza
5.Kwanini Ni Yesu Kristo
6. Omogano O’Imani Otari Na Mamocho

I am 75 yrs and not about to retire from writing. God has kept me in good health and I can tell you I do enjoy writing to the brim. My books have found their way into schools.
