Pastor Daniel Matheka Set Out To Combat Burn Out Among Ministers Of The Gospel

I pastor at and are Executive Director of Twacome Equippers. Twacome is an acronym of ‘Till We All Come’: (Ephesians 4:13).  Our mission as Twacome Equippers is to equip the Church in Africa “Till We All Come to Maturity.

My interest for writing began since I was in high school. My desire was to put in writing the messages that I preach but availability of time and how to do it was a limitation to me. This interest grew over time and when I became a church leader, I wrote many manuals that I used, to train leaders.

I have written many manuals on several topics like: Mentorship Parenting, Raising Children, Pastoral Ministry, and others. Some of these have been published and others are on the way. My reason for writing is because I have a burden of “Equipping the Church of Africa to Maturity”. My passion is to see a ‘Mature African Church”. So, most of my writings are equipping materials that we use in our organization Twacome Equippers.

The book ‘burn out’ which is  featured here came as a result  of observing what was happening to church ministers over a period of time and to many local and national leaders whose work is to serve other people.

I desired to discover what was causing the moral, spiritual, emotional and mental breakdown of some of the respected men and women leaders some of which I knew. At the Centre of it I discovered it was as a result of Burn Out. Then I put myself into wanting to know: What is this thing called burn out? What are its causes? How can we identify it? How can one overcome it? Little did I know that even I was going through a burn out. The writing of the book helped me to know how to deal with it and it has been a source of rejuvenation for those who have read it.

Publishing the book was a big challenge at first and my work stayed unpublished for quite a while until I found the publisher who took me through the first book: Spiritual Maturity’. Later a son of one of our pastors took it upon himself to publish my work in his firm ‘Virtual Interactive’. As a Christian and a gospel minister, I have gone through many challenges. One of which was beginning the publishing work. I remember David Gitaari who is one of us here challenging me to take the first step and I am forever grateful to him because when I did the first step, I was surprised by what God has done.

My suggestion for the book industry in Africa is that we have many authors in Africa who have and can produce good works. But up to now majority of the readership in Africa continue to prefer outside work. My suggestion is that as African Authors we get mentors who can help us refine the work and publishers who can produce quality work to march any other work anywhere.
