Adia’s 4th of July by Audrey Spaulding

Adia and Garvi were going to bed. As Daddy tucked them in, he talked about independence day. He said that it is a day to remember how our country became independent.

“I can’t wait for tomorrow!” Adia told him in a tired voice.

The next day, Adia made American flags out of paper and watched a parade on T.V. Adia and Garvi wore red, white and blue. For lunch, they grilled steak and hotdogs. They made mashed potatoes, too. Later, they played in the backyard for a while. Daddy got out the sprinklers, and he lit some sparklers. Adia could feel the bright sun shining on her skin. Mama came outside and sat on a lawn chair.

“Don’t stay out here too long. You need to stay hydrated.” Mama said.

They played on the trampoline and had a great time. When it got a bit darker, Daddy made a fire to make smores. “Do you want some smores, Sunny?” Adia asked her sister.

” I’m not a big fan of smores. No, thank you” Sunny replied.

Adia accidentally burned the marshmallows! “I want the one least burnt!” Adia yelled.

Daddy laughed,”I’ll take second least.” He said.

All the same, they went okay. They still tasted really good! Adia afterward visited her neighbour, Ada, to watch a movie. Afterwhich, they lit the fireworks together as well as more sparklers. Both Adia and Ada’s parents sat at Adas’ front porch as they watched their children run around enjoying the perfect evening.

In the neighborhood there was a lot more fireworks going on from different locations. They lit the skies with all the beautiful colors.

“HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, AMERICA!!!”

Finally, Adia ran one more lap around Ada’s backyard. It was time to go home. They had enough fun for the day. Everyone had an amazing 4th of July.

“I can’t wait for next year!” Adia exclaimed.
