From an early stage in life, I had told myself that I needed to write a book after listening in to Dr. Myles Munroe’s sermons and one of his favorite quotes being that the richest place on earth is the graveyard. This arose the desire within me to write a book so that I do not leave this place the same as I find it. To reach out, impact, and transform lives. Though I really wanted to, I did not know what to write about.
The moment of realization was June 2021, at the passing of my dearly beloved mother. It was during the time of the pandemic and was counted as part of the statistics of those who passed away then due to the infirmity that took millions of people across the globe. Because of this, my elder sister, brother, and I, her children who were in the country then had to face the greatest fear I had in my life. Thanks to the relatives that stood with us during this very trying moment, allowing my mother to have a befitting send-off that was the least expected at that time.
A virtual sendoff was held to allow those that were in the diaspora especially her children and those that could not make it to be part of the sendoff. People logged in from across the globe and at the end, each had a chance to give their eulogies. Listening to everyone’s eulogies and the consistency therein of the messages sparked the light bulb I had been seeking to light all along. I now had a topic. Mum had lived her life, left at the time when she was ready to go and she had lived her legacy. She had impacted many people’s lives across the globe irrespective of being in a wheelchair, with less mobility. She had left her mark.
This posed a challenge to me. If I were to die now, how ready was I to go and whose life would I have impacted? I was then determined for my mum’s legacy to live on. I started off with recording and publishing podcasts under the theme; Dazzle in Your Greatness, blogging with the hope that I would get feedback from my audience that would form part of my findings to be written about.
It was at this time that I enrolled in a leadership course at the Harvest Institute. One of the requirements to be fulfilled in order to qualify for graduation was a book written and published. Voila!!! This was it, I was going to write about the values and principles my mum lived by that still live on today. The people who wrote the bible are no longer alive but their legacy lives on. She was disabled, but she was always cheerful, better than those who had no ailments. I took it upon myself to be the one to write out this beautiful journey that Mum took and make it accessible for those that did not get a chance to meet her to benefit from her story.
