Richard’s Painful Journey of Unforgiveness and a Book On Breaking the Chains

My name is Richard Wachira. I am a former banker, a trainer a conference speaker currently lecturing at Kabarak University. Am a consultant mainly on the line of Supply Chain Management, business, soft skills. My last assignment was training of farmers in Trans-Nzoia county on the Dairy value chain under a World Bank Project (NARIGP). I have a passion to reach out institutions of higher learning with the good news.

I am an author of one book ‘The Chains of Unforgiveness’ which explains how the trap of offense, which has led many believers to not function properly in their calling because of the wounds and hurts that offenses have caused in their lives. They are handicapped and hindered from fulfilling their full potential. Most often it is fellow believer who hurt them, leading to feelings of betrayal.
Song of Songs 2:15 ‘Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom’ NIV.

The “little foxes” of unforgiveness will always spoil the tender fruit of our relationships. The book further explains that the choice to forgive is a deliberate and purposeful act and that offended people produce much fruit, such as hurt, anger, outrage, jealousy, resentment, strife, bitterness, hatred, and envy with the consequences of picking up an offense being insults, attacks, wounds, division, separation, broken relationships, betrayal, and backsliding.

A Painful Writing Journey
My writing journey started many years ago but I would write on paper then discovered that I was unable to forgive certain people and tear the papers again. I come from a very humble background and during my high school education my parents could not raise my school fees. I discontinued my education, and I lost hope. At such a time I realized later that a certain wealthy neighbor was actually using my name and accessing my bursaries and other financial assistance from the government for his personal gain. When I approached him he reminded me that we were poor and that my siblings and I will amount to nothing! He added that If we had any means to sue him in any court, we could go ahead.
That reminder was heart breaking and wounds continued building up in me which led to ulcers, affecting my health at a tender age.

I have fought through my life to understand Genesis 50:19 – 20 “But Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people”
When I got to campus, I ended up being the C.U. chairman. I would preach and people would be blessed; but when I left the stage, I wept knowing that my condition was worse than those I ministered. I could not forgive until the day God helped me release the burden of offence! I felt lighter!

A bitter world
The world is paining in all dimensions. Am witnessing issues of hostility in families as a result of domestic violence, betrayal, broken relationships, grudge and long term both emotional and physical sicknesses. I have ministered in many secondary schools and I can confirm to you that the school fires are just a manifestation of the rot and the mess in the society. I have discussed this topic with the political class even after last year’s general elections and some of the actions including the mass action, destruction of property witnessed in this country are consequences of bitterness and betrayal.

Many people including Christians are suffering great rejection, betrayal, and are stuck in the mud. You and I can decide to keep rehearsing what happened but you can also decide to release it.
The hearts of many people have so many locked doors that there is very little space left in which to live. They have closed the doors on the mess inside, hoping the doors will stay shut forever. Eventually, however, they no longer can bottle up the emotions.
I launched the book in May last year. Before the end of the year, the first batch of 1,000 copies were sold out, with my main outlets being churches, high school principals who would buy for their libraries and University students.
