MY WRITING JOURNEY
I come from a family where languages flow naturally. I have lost count of how many English and literature teachers we have in the family but what I can confidently say though is that over 70% of my cousins fall within this category. I developed a reading culture from an early age through the influence of my aunt Susan and you will understand why writing seems to come naturally for me. The story of my origins as a writer would also not be complete without mentioning my formative year teachers. I remember writing a particular composition in high school that piqued the interest of the whole English/literature department such that it was remarked by a panel with the toughest criteria. That is the point at which I knew that there is something more I can do with this writing than just what I had been doing. Thanks to Mrs. Malowa my English Teacher, I learnt what it takes to write a good story.
I gave up on my first attempt to author a book
Straight out of high school I attempted to write my first novel ‘The Missing Rib’ with zero guidance and I gave up along the way when things became tough. I however, didn’t lose the drive to write because it is something that is embedded deeply within me. Over the years I have continued to write articles and sermons for my own use.
Life got in the way of my writing and for a long time I didn’t do much writing in the long form sense of a book. What I was left with is the sermons and articles as indicated above.
Fast Forward to 2015 and I decided to start writing what ended up to be my first published book ‘Blessed to be a Blessing.’ By Mid 2016 I was done but I shelved the manuscript because the publishing process seemed to be complicated for me. I went on to do many other things and also wrote two more books which are at various stages in the publishing process. One fictional book and another non-fiction.
At the beginning of 2020 one of my resolutions was to publish by mid year. I am proud to say that I hit the target despite the challenges with Covid-19 pandemic and not knowing where and how to find help because by Mid May 2020, the book was launched albeit virtually.
Thanks to people like James Karundu who introduced me to CLC Kenya and I found a way to print just what was needed through print-on-demand. It has been quite a journey.
I have also put together a program entitled ‘Optimize Your Life’ from my first published book “Blessed to be a Blessing” which is a course that helps you Make the most of who you are and what God has blessed you with for your benefit and the benefit of God’s Kingdom, The same is also accompanied by a Coaching program of the same name.
