Patrick ‘The Gifted Pen’ Lavince Wandare Ondegoh’s Writing Journey

I’m a Poet, Writer, Spoken Word Artist, Gender Equality advocate, social justice activist, and Lawyer.
I’m a member of Africa Youth Leadership Forum- AYLF- a family of friends guided by the teachings and values of Jesus Christ. Born in a Christian family, I’ve anchored my relationship with God on a firm foundation.
I’m also a Mentor with Emerging Leaders Foundation – Africa and VIPAWA Hub Afrika – home for talent development and I’m focused on poetry mentorship. I’m an Author of Two Poetry anthologies. The first book titled ‘Lust of My Ink’ is a collection of 101 poems, published in 2017 and it seeks to refine and define the paths on which human beings tread. These poems capture themes that the heart is silent on.
The book is centered on love, purpose, spirituality, hope, pain, gender-based violence, death, persons living with disability etc. It’s a book that speaks about the ills of society such as abortion and why it’s necessary to water your generations.

It’s a mirror through which gender-based violence is seen and shun. It’s the flute that whistles the pain away and invites peace and God’s guidance upon one’s life. This book gives women a new reason to dream and know their purpose on this Earth. They are more than just a rib. Souls that have left bodies lying prostate beneath the soil look up on those they love and left in this world to continue with the journey they started. Famine that has engulfed children in ASALs is also spoken about in this book. Stories of love, deeply engraved in the marrows of our souls are enclosed and form part of the ingredients in this book. You could not need a better recipe!
The target audience for this book is teenagers, young adults and adults.

The second book titled Moonlight: ‘A Night of a Thousand Words’, published in 2019, is a collection of 140 full-length poems with short poems and poetic quotes as interludes. This is a collection of poems set in the deepest and darkest core of life but illuminated for the soul. The book is a reflection of the mind, a mirror of hope, where thoughts crack the skull and heart strikes the chords to give life its sweetest melody. This book is like a river that flows downstream and full of memories, a stream of courage, a spring of love, a chandelier of nocturnal adventures and an academy of words. The main themes are Life ( _Vitae_), Love ( _Amorem_) and Light/hope ( _Luci_), and the target audience is Young adults and adults. Poetry, through God, has opened doors for me and the recent milestone was to have copies of my second book shipped to the United States of America Library of Congress.
I’m a currently working on my 3rd and 4th poetry anthologies. Hopefully, I’ll launch them next year, God willing.

Writing work History.
I began writing professionally while in my third year in high school at Utumishi Boys Academy – Gilgil.
This was in 2013 and the journey has been worth every sweat drop ever since. I used to write my poems in a six-quire counter book and it really helped me as I later transformed the two six quire counter books to be my manuscript for my first book, ‘Lust of My Ink’. I was inspired to write by the late Dr. Maya Angelou, American Poet, Memoirist and Civil Rights icon whose poetry birthed change in governance. I also draw inspiration from Robert Frost and Edgar Allan Poe. May the ravens perch on the crest of poetry!
