The book of Peter in the Bible has some pretty intriguing information. According to the Bible, Lot was a good man who was troubled by the way of life of the inhabitants of Sodom.

Then, why didn’t he depart if he was troubled by the way of life and evil of the Sodomites? Scripture makes it quite plain that their depravity reached such a height that God had to destroy the city. Why would a righteous man stay in a place where there is so much evil, violence, and immorality?

Is it possible that he grew accustomed to it or that he used the advantages the city provided to him to justify his stay? Has he grown accustomed to the stink of Sodom.

In Nairobi, there is a market where a lot of meat and other animal items are sold. As a result, the market has a persistent odor. For someone who is unfamiliar with it, this odor might be very repulsive and difficult to tolerate, but for the individuals who work there every day, you’ll find that they are accustomed to it; they eat there and are at ease. They are no longer bothered by the stench because they have become accustomed to it. The same is true for those who work in urban areas near public restrooms. For some of these individuals, it might be very challenging to endure such an environment; nevertheless, when you encounter them, you discover that they have grown accustomed to it and no longer find it bothersome.

Is it possible to reach a point where one has become accustomed to the immorality they encounter or has learned to live with it without complaining? Perhaps they have learned to justify their need to be there. They have learned to ignore the evil and the damaging effects of the environment and simply take pleasure in the advantages they are receiving.

However, whether you have learned to live alongside danger does not guarantee that you will not suffer harm in the long run. Environments have a great deal of influence over individuals; they sculpt them and impose their culture on those who live there.
In the end, Sodom significantly affected Lot; it cost him his wife, it corrupted the minds of his daughters, and it cursed future generations.

It may be vital to consult the Lord and ask him for advice if we find ourselves in a setting or situation where we are vexed. Do we have the grace to stay, or should we go for the sake of our family and ourselves? There are seasons for fighting and seasons for fleeing. Here, leaving the specific situation or relationship that is causing our faith, values, and way of life to crumble is the best course of action.
