Sons of God Are Peacemakers – A Little About A Lot

After the strife between Lot’s servants with Abraham’s servants. Abraham makes the decision that they have to separate and part ways. We can see that Abraham did not want the strive to continue. He desired peace. It did not matter about who was winning. It was not even about who was greater. He just wanted peace between them. He believed that their rivalry was causing unnecessary tension and conflict, and that it was time for them to put their differences aside and move forward in a positive way. The Bible encourages us to be peacemakers. Jesus actually teaches us that blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.

Blessed [spiritually calm with life-joy in God’s favour] are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they will [express His character and] be called the sons of God.

Matthew 5:9

This verse emphasises the importance of being a peacemaker and maintaining peace in our lives. It also highlights that those who do so will be recognised as children of God, reflecting His character in their actions. This shows that one characteristic of sons of God is that they are peacemakers. We are also encouraged from the epistles to seek peace with all men as long as it is in our power.

If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Romans 12:18

This verse from the Bible encourages individuals to do their part in promoting peace and harmony with others. It implies that living in peace is a shared responsibility that requires effort from everyone involved. Being a peacemaker doesn’t mean avoiding conflicts or pretending they don’t exist, but rather actively working towards resolving them in a peaceful manner. It requires humility, patience, and a willingness to listen and understand different perspectives. Sometimes seeking peace can be costly. We may lose a position, an argument or even a benefit, but it is very important to prioritise the place of peace in our lives. After all, it is written that righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy spirit make up the kingdom of God. Therefore, it is crucial to strive for inner peace and maintain healthy relationships with others. This can bring about a sense of fulfilment and happiness that cannot be achieved through material possessions or temporary victories. We also see Abraham asks Lot to choose first. He prioritises him ahead of himself. This is really a heart of humility. He prefers Lot ahead of himself, the way the Bible teaches us in that we should treat others as better than ourselves. This kind of selflessness is rare in today’s world; people often prioritise their own interests over others. It’s a beautiful example of living out one’s faith and treating others with love and respect. As a driver in the city of Nairobi, many times I have seen huge traffic jams caused by people not wanting to allow others to go first and as a result, all of us end up getting stuck in jam, wasting time. But I have also seen other instances where people allow others to go first and there is smooth traffic flow. By being considerate of others, we can create a more efficient and harmonious experience for everyone.
