Trusting the Potter

When life breaks you open, what will you do with the pieces?

In Trusting the Potter: A Journey of Faith, Resilience, and Purpose, Pretty Mashego takes readers on a deeply personal and faith-filled journey through seasons of loss, waiting, reshaping, and divine restoration. From surviving a devastating car accident and navigating retrenchment to enduring heartbreaking losses, Pretty discovers that even in life’s most crushing moments, the Potter’s hands never let go.

Drawing from Scripture, personal testimony, and gentle spiritual insight, she weaves together stories of pain turned into purpose, proving that brokenness is not the end but the beginning of becoming. Each chapter invites you to reflect, release, and renew your trust in God’s process through affirmations, journaling prompts, and heartfelt prayers.

This book is for anyone walking through fire, waiting for answers, or learning to begin again. It is a sacred reminder that:
– The fire does not destroy you; it refines you.
– The cracks in your story are where God’s light enters.
– And the Potter never discards the clay; He remakes it into beauty.

You are not behind. You are becoming. And in the Potter’s hands, every broken piece still matters.

Welcome to the Book Launch

“Impacting lives with Christian literature”

What is the story behind this book—what moment, experience, or burden in your heart made you realise, “This book must be written”?

Trusting the Potter: When God Turns Pain into Purpose came out of my own journey through some really hard seasons. A few years ago, I was involved in a train accident, a devastating motor vehicle crash with a truck, and the loss of close family members—my sister, brother, mother, brother, half-brother, and my child who passed on a few minutes after birth. I then faced retrenchment, and I walked through heartbreaking losses that left me feeling like everything I had built was crumbling. In those moments, I kept asking God, “Why me, why now?”

The real push to write came when I started mentoring people who were going through similar fires—job losses, grief, uncertainty—and I saw the same questions in their eyes. I felt a strong burden to share that you are not alone, and this is not the end of your story. I wanted people to know that the Potter is still at work and that pain is never wasted.

Who is this book for, and what transformation do you hope readers will experience after reading it?

This book is for anyone who is walking through a tough season—whether you are waiting for answers, dealing with uncertainty, or trying to start over after something has fallen apart. It is especially for the person who feels too broken to be useful, or who is just tired of trying to hold everything together.

I have sat with people who lost their source of income, lost loved ones, or felt like their purpose had disappeared. I have been that person myself. My hope is that when readers finally lay their hands on Trusting the Potter, something shifts inside them. That they move from striving to surrender, from despair to quiet hope. I want them to start seeing their scars differently—not as marks of failure, but as proof that God has been refining them.

Was there a specific chapter, message, or section that was especially difficult—or especially meaningful—for you to write? Why?

Chapter 7, “My Encounter with Clay,” was especially meaningful to me because it is where the metaphor of the Potter became real in my own life. During a difficult season of retrenchment, my friend Queen Unity Shiburi, through her prayers and encouragement and her invitation to a pottery workshop, opened my eyes to how unexpected experiences shape us.

That pottery experience ultimately birthed Trusting the Potter. It taught me that even in seasons of uncertainty, God can be speaking through the people He places around us and through experiences we may initially be afraid to embrace. The chapter reminds me that we are all unfinished vessels, shaped through faith, friendship, loss, courage, and surrender.

How did writing this book change you personally—your faith, your thinking, or your journey?

Writing this book became part of my own healing. As I put the story down—the accidents, job loss, the grief—God touched deeper places in my heart that I did not even realize were still hurting. My faith moved from just knowing about God’s faithfulness to actually experiencing it in a more personal way.

It also helped me see my calling more clearly. I realized that my work as a safety custodian at a mining operation, as a coach, a mentor, and an entrepreneur, is an extension of what God did in me. He did not restore me just for myself—He restored me so I could help others rebuild too.

For someone watching right now who feels drawn to this message, why is this book important for them to read at this season of their life?

For those who are watching this important launch of Trusting the Potter and something is stirring in your heart: I want to ignite your purpose in life, heal the wounds, and unlock your full potential. Understand that it is not random that you are hearing this message. Your life is about to grow in depth, direction, and meaning.

You might be in a season of pain, waiting, or starting over again, just like I was after the accidents and the losses. God is inviting you to trust Him more deeply right now.

Trusting the Potter will walk with you through that season. It shares my story honestly, but it also includes scriptures, prayers, affirmations, and journaling prompts that create space for God to speak to you. You don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need to be willing to place the broken pieces in His hands.

A message from Dr. Muthoni Omukhango, the National Director at CLC Kenya and Head of Publishing

One of the things that has impacted me greatly about Pretty is her genuine passion for empowering others. She does not simply seek opportunities for herself; she has a heart for bringing others along. I have seen this even in her commitment to mobilise readers and encourage them to grow through CLC’s Read With Me continental reading club. As the Potter continues shaping her, Pretty is not content to enjoy the journey alone, she reaches back, makes room and invites others to become too. That spirit comes through beautifully in Trusting the Potter. Pretty opens her life with remarkable vulnerability, allowing us into seasons of grief, loss, uncertainty, professional transition and unexpected restoration.

She does not present a perfectly finished vessel; instead, she gives us an honest picture of what it means to remain in God’s hands while still being shaped. This is what makes her story meaningful. It reminds us that God can use both the beautiful and painful parts of our journeys, and that sometimes our testimony becomes one of the ways He strengthens someone else. Pretty, it has been an honour to be part of bringing your story to readers. May Trusting the Potter remind many that whatever season they are walking through, the Potter is still at work. Congratulations and well done.
