Joy Limo

Joy Limo was raised in a Christian family of ten siblings by a veterinarian father and a teacher mother. She holds a degree in Education, majoring in Fine Art, and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology.

Joy contracted polio at twenty-two months old, an experience that became part of a remarkable journey shaped by physical rehabilitation, the steadfast love and support of her family, and her own determination and resilience. Rather than allowing physical limitations to define her life, she has embraced a unique and fulfilling journey marked by creativity, compassion and a desire to positively influence others.

With a special passion for children and youth, Joy creates and supports children and youth clubs and mentorship programs that nurture a love for reading while helping young people develop positive values and virtues. Her background in education, art and psychology informs her commitment to creating spaces where children and youth can learn, grow, express themselves and flourish.

Through her writing and work with children and youth, Joy hopes to inspire young readers to approach life with courage, kindness, faith and hope.

Miracle Comes Home

She was the miracle they prayed for — and the light that never stopped shining. After twelve long years of waiting, joy finally visits the Kenei family in the form of a beautiful baby girl named Miracle. Her laughter fills the home, her kindness touches every heart, and her name becomes a testimony of God’s faithfulness.

But when illness strikes suddenly, Miracle’s world changes. Through long hospital days and quiet nights of prayer, her radiant spirit refuses to dim. With the gentle help of her best friend Shanice, a brave little girl who walks with crutches, Miracle learns to face each day with courage, faith, and joy.

As her body weakens, her light grows stronger, touching her family, her friends, and an entire village with the message that even in pain, God’s love never fails.

Tender, faith-filled, and deeply moving, Miracle Comes Home reminds children and families alike that every day is a gift, every friendship a blessing, and that some miracles never leave, they simply go home to Jesus.

Perfect for readers aged 7–11, this story is ideal for families, Sunday schools, and children learning to find hope in hard times.

Welcome to the Book Launch

“Impacting lives with Christian literature”

What inspired you to write Miracle Comes Home, and what made you feel that this was a story that needed to be told?

The inspiration for this manuscript stems from the diverse emotional responses and reactions I observed regarding illness and disability. These observations inspired me to explore these experiences through a children’s story and create an opportunity for readers to reflect on how we understand and respond to illness and disability.

Who did you write Miracle Comes Home for, and why did you choose to address these themes through a children’s book?

This book is authored for a younger audience. Children frequently pose candid questions that adults may contemplate but refrain from articulating. Children also readily accept the explanations provided to them. Consequently, I believe they deserve honest, transparent, and accessible responses to some of the difficult questions they encounter in life.

Unlike many children’s stories with traditional happy endings, Miracle Comes Home includes Miracle’s passing. Why was it important for you to tell the story this way?

While many stories conclude with traditional endings, this story depicts the passing of Miracle. However, it also highlights the profound personal growth and character development that her friend experiences throughout their journey together. Miracle’s passing is therefore part of a larger journey that shows the impact her life and friendship have on those around her.

How did writing Miracle Comes Home shape your perspective as an author, and has it influenced what you would like to write next?

Reflecting on the public’s perceptions and reactions regarding illness and disability during the writing of this book has inspired me to develop a children’s book series addressing the various life challenges children encounter. I hope to continue creating stories that help younger readers engage with difficult realities in ways they can understand.

For someone watching right now who feels drawn to this message, why is this book important for them to read at this season of their life?

I encourage all viewers who resonate with the message to read the book and share it widely, particularly with younger audiences. My hope is that the story will reach children and provide an accessible way for them to engage with important themes surrounding illness, disability, friendship and life’s challenges.

A message from Dr. Muthoni Omukhango, the National Director at CLC Kenya and Head of Publishing

Every so often, a manuscript comes across my desk that reminds me why children need books for more than entertainment. They need stories that give them language for the parts of life we adults sometimes struggle to explain. Miracle Comes Home is one of those stories. As a mother, I know the instinct to protect our children from painful realities. We would gladly edit certain chapters out of life if God handed us the red pen! Yet children encounter disappointment, sickness, disability, grief and loss, whether within their own families or through the experiences of friends and classmates.

When those moments come, silence does not necessarily protect them. Sometimes, what they need is a gentle story that helps them ask questions, express what they feel and discover that difficult emotions can be carried in the presence of God. This is what I appreciate about Joy Limo’s decision to write this book. Joy brings to these pages something that cannot simply be learnt from a writing manual. Her background as an educator and clinical psychologist gives her an understanding of children, but her own experience of living with the effects of childhood polio adds another layer of empathy. She writes from an awareness that childhood can hold both vulnerability and remarkable strength. I am particularly glad that this story makes room for children whose experiences are not always represented in our books. African children living with illness or disability deserve to find themselves on the page—not merely as people to be pitied, but as children who have friendships, dreams, faith, humour, courage and something meaningful to contribute to the lives of others. For parents, I hope this will not simply be a book you hand to your child and walk away from. Read it together. Allow the difficult questions. Listen before rushing to provide the perfect answer. Talk about fear, friendship, prayer, grief and heaven. And where words fail, simply sit together for a while. Some of the most important conversations between parents and children begin with, “How did that part make you feel?” Jesus welcomed children and placed extraordinary value on them. He did not regard their hearts as too small for the things of God. Neither should we. At CLC Kenya, we believe Christian literature can help disciple children not only by teaching them what to believe, but also by helping them understand how faith accompanies them through real life. My prayer is that Miracle Comes Home will become one of those books families return to when they need courage for a difficult conversation, comfort in a difficult season, or simply a reminder to treasure the people God has placed in their lives. May these pages find their way into little hands—and may the conversations they begin continue long after the book has been closed.
